The Paralysis of Choice

Have you ever had a tough time making a choice?
I have and I’m sure you have as well.  Making choices is something we do everyday, but there are times when making them is tough going.
I’m reading  Buddhism Plain and Simple by Steve Hagen on my Amazon Kindle 2 and was struck by this quote about [...]

Time for Another Solo-Dad Facelift

Yes, we’re changing things around a bit.
Some blogs can go their merry way and never change a thing. Here at Solo-Dad, that’s just not the case.  We need change.
No, we CRAVE change.
But not just change for change’s sake, but positive change; that which makes us better, leaner, stronger.
Yes, I know…it’s not universal health care…we’re [...]

Dad Loaf

Would You Rather Be Buried or Cremated?
It began innocently with one of those infamous Facebook quizzes. You know the ones, written by fifth graders?
Yeah, those.
So, I decided to depart from my normal FB-MO and take the quiz. OK, it actually wasn’t a quiz…more of a poll, I guess.
Anyway….
LE saw I’d posted my preference for [...]

Saying Goodbye

I’ve said goodbye to daughter a hundred times.
At the conclusion of each weekend she’d spend with me when she was young; At the conclusion of each telephone conversation over the years.  But only a few of them have been as emotionally charged as the one about a week ago.
Leaving the Lower 48
When she and [...]

31DBBSD Day #8: Watch Your Language, Son

My father is 77 and I’ve never heard him swear.
Not one time have I ever heard an ‘Oh S—t,’ a ‘God—–it,’ or even a ‘Mother f—-er’ in times if anger.
Is he a freak of nature or someone who watches his language?
A recent Time Magazine article would argue for the former.
In it, writer Tiffany Sharples [...]

31DBBSD – Day #7: Single Dad Dating: Keeping It Private

Today’s post in the 31 Days to Become A Better Solo-Dad series is about dating.  Specifically, it’s about keeping your dating life separate from your parenting life.
Children Come First
I don’t think I’ll get any disagreement there. Our kids are the most important element in our lives.  The second anything begins to compete with the time [...]
