Do you use Facebook?
I do, but mainly for keeping in touch with family, friends, a few former girlfriends,
and lots of old high school buddies.
Facebook (FB) is one of the most popular social networking sites. It’s growth rate has been phenomenal and it’s appeal much more widespread than Twitter which I find don’t find as useful for the same purposes.
I’ve seen people become habitual users of FB, and use it quite effectively, who I’ve not formerly seen online. In my observation of FB users, I’ve come up with some user categories.
Categories of Facebook Users
The Diarist
This type of user chronicles their life minute by minute and can’t wait to tell the world when they get up, what they have for breakfast, when they pee, and with whom they’re spending their time. It’s a response to the “Barry Is ____ …” prompt that is supposed to stimulate our response.
The Business Owner
I tend not to use FB for business purposes but there are many who do. (Disclaimer: I do periodically mention Solo-Dad.com events on FB.) It makes sense for some, but not for me. For those who do, FB is an extension of their marketing machine. Twitter becomes FB becomes Plurk becomes Blogged…and it goes on from there.
The Exclamation Point User
You’ve probably seen these posts!!! They’re followed not one, but up to four exclamation points!!!!! Seriously, did they cut every grammar class?????
The Clueless
These well-meaning but, well…clueless FBers use their online presence to ask questions that have obvious answers like, “What do I use FB for?” Or, “How do I post on Facebook?”
See yourself in this list of FB users?
How do you use FB? Do you use it for business? Pleasure? What’s the value FB brings to you? Maybe the best question is, “Could you do without it?”

I love facebook, i was a shy class clown in high school and now it brings me back to my school humor days.. with old friends it is like we never missed a beat. aahhh life in the 80s
Also as our extended family is a bit spread out, but within distance of about 3 hrs.. we like to keep up with events we miss and invite each other to the larger events that we make the trip for.
but I am not sure i fit any of your descriptions.. except I like to punctuate when Im feeling particularly excited. But I do know some of those types… also a lot of people asking advice. Where to buy things at the best price, what to do with unruly kids. etc.
